Being close to a crime scene - and a little bit scared

Our little community in Pasco county is nestled among grandfather oaks and grazing cows far away from the hustle and bustle of metropolitan Tampa Bay.  We have live here since we relocated to Florida in 2005 and we think we found the perfect neighborhood for Swedes, very close to nature, very quiet.  Everyone is friendly and helpful and we all know each other and we enjoy to spend time together.

We have live here since we relocated to Florida in 2005 and we think we found the perfect neighborhood for Swedes, very close to nature, very quiet.  Everyone is friendly and helpful and we all know each other and we enjoy to spend time together.

Of course a good neighborhood need a little bit of drama and a bad guy to blame for every bad incident that occurs. Such as the occasional mailbox that are being run over, littering of soda cans on someone’s driveway, really minor incidents as you can see. The bad guy in our community happened to live across the street from us. We had a few run-ins with him, once for example, he stopped my husband’s car to tell him that he needed to control his amazon woman better so that she did not talk back to him (my husband told him kindly that Swedish women are not controlled).  We did not see much of him but he seemed to need to blow his steam off about once a year when he verbally attacked people in the neighborhood. Everyone disliked him but he did not really cause that much trouble.

This morning when I was leaving the house I was surprised to meet with a sheriff’s car on our drive way.

My first reaction was of course fear, my daughters had already left for school and my husband had left for work.  However, in the corner of my eyes I noticed that our neighbor’s property was swarming with police cars. I must admit that I was relieved that the sheriff’s visit was not about my family.

The sheriff was asking me questions; had I observed or heard something Sunday night, had I seen anything out of the ordinary. I answered honestly that I had not.

The sheriff said that the investigation was ongoing and that he was not allowed to say much, but from his questions I understood that the wife of our neighbor was missing since Sunday night and that there had been certain finds in the house that indicated foul play.  Of course I wanted to know if the husband, the bully of the neighborhood had been arrested. He was still on free foot and I was asked if I knew what type of car he was driving. It is a little bit uncomfortable to know that this man is still not under arrest and I do hope that we will know more before it gets dark.

When this is published we know that something horrible happened in our neighbor’s house, a house where my kids used to play and sleep over is now a crime scene, sealed off with yellow tape and filled with forensic experts.

We know by now that the wife in the house together with her new boyfriend is missing since Sunday.  Lakes and ponds around the area are searched and a helicopter has been searching the area since noon.

We are all very concerned and soon enough it will be dark. The latest news we got some minutes ago is that this has know turned into a homicide investigation and that the police still has not found the husband
