Tim Tebow

A picture named M2
University of Florida student, Tim Tebow, earning college credits.
It is not the name of his boyfriend smeared in his face it is a reference to a bible verse.

In some senses the USA is so – exotic – to a Swede.  Let us look at football. Football is big in Sweden and big in Europe. Football is gigantonormous in the USA.  The football in the USA though is not the same as our football. Actually in the USA they use their hands – to play football. The so called American football resemble more the Roman gladiator fights than football. So called big heads, are dressed in comic body protection gear and ram into each other in full force and the pile themselves upon each other trying to catch an oblong leather trophy.  The gladiators play in teams and if anyone manage to crawl out under the pile carrying the leather trophy, he needs to put it onto the other teams turf.

It is a primitive, violent and lucrative game. The American football industry is hughe and constantly hungry for fresh met to grind in the big stadiums where a blood thirsty audience frenzy on hot dogs, tacos and tasteless beer.

Now, the US audience do behave better than the infamous European football hooligans. Probably because they are busy gobbling food and drinks.

The gladiators represent college teams from the nation.  A college that has a successful team will make a lot of money.  One would be surprised that these big heads are involved in any type of academia. Actually as many as 40% of the big heads graduate from their colleges.  The colleges do however, grant credits for football training and exercise. One of the biggest bigheads in Florida Tim Tebow who studies at the University of Florida said the following about his academics: "I guess the class that I would have is senior seminar. It’s one hour and one credit. It’s on Tuesday afternoons and we have practice. I’m going to work around that with the professors. I’m going to do whatever my counselor sets up. I’m a football player this semester.''

Tebow might not contribute to the academic achievements of UF, but the sales of T-shirts and other paraphernalia with his name on brings in millions to the university. Tibow was recruited to the UF because he could run very, very fast. It must be a good trait in American football, so that you can get away from everyone who wants to pile up on top of you. Unless you like to be under a big pile of sweaty men.

Actually Tim Tebow has a history that appeals to the general American, he made it to stardom from nothing. He claims that he was almost killed by doctors in his mother’s womb. He was homeschooled and had to fight to become a member of a high school football team.

Upon becoming the first home-schooled athlete to be nominated for the Heisman Trophy, Tebow remarked, "That’s really cool. A lot of times people have this stereotype of homeschoolers as not very athletic – it's like, go win a spelling bee or something like that – it’s an honor for me to be the first one to do that." [from Wikipedia]  I am not sure what Tebow meant really, was he the first home schooler to win a spelling bee?

It seems like Tebow spent most of his time at the college running very, very fast.

Tebow will not play in the Super Bowl, that is the biggest game of the year in American football. Millions and millions of Americans will gobble and slobber tacos and hot dogs in front of their TVs to watch the game. In other words big money for the National Football League (NFL) and CBS that airs the show, the commercials will get record number of viewers. It is therefore super expensive to buy time during this event.

Tebow will appear to the viewers taking a standpoint against abortion, as he is an “abortion surviver” this of course without mentioning the word abortion.  An organization called Focus on the Family will dosh out the money to have Tebow probably giving the super bowl viewers a little preaching, probably saying something such as:  "That’s really cool. A lot of times people have this stereotype of this pro lifers as stoneage patriarchs – it's like, women and girls should stay at home and have babies no matter what or something like that – it’s an honor for me to be the result of that."

Focus on the Family is a tax exempt, non-profit organization. The group supports the teaching of "traditional family values". It advocates school sponsored prayer and supports death penalty. It strongly opposes abortion, so-called militant feminism, homosexuality, pornography, and pre-marital and extramarital sexual activity. Focus on the Family also opposes all forms of legalized gambling. James Dobson, the group's founder, has a history of inflammatory statements and once said that gay marriage will "destroy the earth."

I guess it must be a great honor of the University of Florida to show off their high level of academics, (including science) with such a bright student that can run so fast.

I myself will make sure my daughters run fast, very fast from the UF.

Well, isn’t this exotic for a Swede? People calling themselves football players that are really not playing football, inscribed into colleges and university to not study but play what they think are football full time and young people that should study at the university but playing what they think is football paying zillions to preach to food gobbeling, beer gushing fellow citizens about to abort or not to abort.

Only in America.Take out your pop corn and enjoy the train wreck.

1 - I am Swedish and have visited the US many times. It is very different from Sweden, but so is the rest of the world. The hostility in your tone is horribly rude. Being Swedish, I do not want to be associated with such cynicism and critique of another country's culture - one that immigrants can never fully understand.

If an Iraqi was writing about Lucia to other Iraqis in Sweden, I'm sure they wouldn't understand it completely and make fun of it too. I don't support that kind of ignorance. This is similar, and not a very good article to post on this kind of forum.
