BP - Big Predator

BP has received many new names by media lately, here is my suggestion; Big Predator, let me explain why I suggest this new name for this giant killer that sucks energy out of the earth and spews out oil spill and disaster all over the world with little or no concern for the environment or human lives.  Their giant profits are used to buy law makers and politicians where they are cheap, such as in the USA and in many developing countries.  Their oil spills and systematic negligence of cleaning up is hidden behind expensive pr-campaigns and bought spokespeople.  It is scary to see this mega company rather spend money on lobbying for less protection of our environment and their employees than actually using some of their profit to improve on their own methods and to help sanitized where they pollute.

Their latest trick, probably suggested by their cadre of lawyers was to refuse to release video footage from the spill where the oil and gas is guzzling out, BP also decided to not use the regular way of measuring how much oil is released per day but decided to make their own estimations. Again, spend money on protecting themselves instead of the one and only Mexican Gulf we have and the people living on and off its rich ecology. The mantra is limit liability at any cost, if you can fool someone to undersign a waiver for future law suits you made the day, who cares that you took away the livelihood for this man’s family for an unforeseen future.

The methods and management of BP is very successful, only a week after the oil spill, BP announced a profit of $6 billion for the first quarter of 2010, a doubling of profits from last year. The strategy of saving on security measures for humans and environment has been extremely profitable, acting like the big banks here, take big risks, if we fail, let the others pay, if we succeed let’s take home the profit.

USA is a huge playground for the third largest corporation in this country, BP’s $237 billion revenue from 2009 makes it easy to buy friends and hide facts. Having their say in the law making here they have made sure that they can limit their liability for any catastrophe they might cause and leave it to their friends to pay the bill when the party is over.

BP and USA have been friends for a long time, more than 60 years actually, since the times when BP was called the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, AIOC.  At that time AIOC called their friends in the USA when Iran’s government, headed by the elected and progressive Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh asked the AIOC to share more of its profits from Iranian oil with the people of Iran.  AIOC did not want to share profits with the Iranian people, we know that this has been their policy always, to take from the people and to leave for the people to clean up. Iran responded by nationalize its oil industry, AIOC did not wait to call their big friend in the west, USA, via the CIA arranged a coup d’etat, Mossadegh was deposed and AIOC, now renamed to British Petroleum got most of their former monopoly of Iranian oil back and Iran under the Shah of Iran was thrown back to the stone age and eternal political unrest.

British Petroleum rebranded itself in 2000 to BP and created a green campaign in the US, ‘beyond petroleum’ would make us believe that BP actually did engage in sustainable energy and cared for our environment. Behind the buzz of the well- oiled propaganda machine hides the dirty track record of BP’s real business such as the 2005 refinery explosion in Texas City killing 15 people and injuring 170. The Alaskan pipeline leak where more than 200,000 gallons of crude oil, the Environmental Protection Agency calls it the largest spill that ever occurred on the Alaskan north slope.

When the Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined BP an additional $87 million for the refinery explosion, Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solis said: “BP has allowed hundreds of potential hazards to continue unabated…..workplace safety is more than a slogan, it’s the law”. BP contested all of OSHA’s charges.  The same modus operandi as always, limit liability, rake in the profits and let others pay.

Considering the BP track record of caring for environment and people, I have edited the BP message from deepwaterinvestigation.com   to be more in line with the truth than the slogan.

BP takes responsibility for responding, by hiding the facts to the general public, to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. We will clean our corporate image it up. BP has established a robust process, of paying off our supporters and employing a cadre of lawyers and thugs, to manage claims resulting from the Deepwater Horizon Incident.

BP will pay all necessary and appropriate clean-up costs, up to $75 million or less.

BP is committed to pay, as little as possible for  legitimate and objectively verifiable that we will fight to the bone with our lawyers claims for other loss and damage caused by the spill – this may include claims for assessment, mitigation and clean up of spilled oil, real and property damage caused by the oil, personal injury caused by the spill, commercial losses, including lost of earnings, profit and other losses as contemplated by applicable laws and regulations as we mentioned earlier up to $75 million and we will try to include our legal costs in this sum so funds have already run out.

Can the Swedish Chairman of BP, Carl-Henric Svanberg, make a difference within this profit hungry medusa? No, I do not think so, the only change that will occur is probably in Svanberg’s bank account.

Is Obama at risk for questioning the methods of BP and threatening with big government regulations?

Will we see a coup d’etat here in the US where Obama will be replaced by Sarah ‘drill, baby, drill’ Palin?

The situation will get more serious if the oil, as predicted for this week, hits the loop current that will propel the oil to the Atlantic Ocean and along the US east coast. Then the summer homes of the rich and powerful will be at risk and the real action begins.
